Discovery Nature Center

Upcoming Program:

Starting in February we will be hosting a Birding Series here at Camp Roger. Join Curtis Dykstra, a naturalist and master birder, to learn more about God's diverse world of birds! Feel free to download the Camp Roger Birding Series flyer for pricing information and dates and times.

Our Philosophy:

The Discovery Nature Center (DNC) is dedicated to inviting students, teachers, and other community members to discover more about God's incredible creation. We aim to develop environmentally aware citizens who will responsibly face the challenges of preserving, enjoying, and caring for the natural world. Annually we serve approximately 10,000 participants in our outdoor education programs.

Our Curriculum:

There are over 35 different activities and class topics to choose from. However, our program is very flexible and can be customized to fit your specific needs and goals. Our DNC catalog was developed in conjunction with KC-4 objectives and Michigan Department of Education objectives. Typically, a group would schedule a day at camp for about five hours, 9 a.m.– 2 p.m. This would allow the students to experience three or four different activities during their visit.

Cost:

The base fee for the Discovery Nature Center is $9 per student per day with a minimum group charge of $200.

What our teachers and students have to say:

“Camp Roger has always and continues to be one of the best field trip experiences I can offer my students. The staff’s enthusiasm grabs the attention of students as soon as they get off the bus. Outdoor Education Director, Phil Warners, plans activities that not only teach but create forever memories for his campers. What a wonderful place to explore and learn.”

“This was our ninth year spending a day at the wonderful facilities at Camp Roger with our 6th graders. It is a perfect spot to conduct place-based learning activities and foster a love of the outdoors in children. Camp Roger staff are a professional, engaging and kid-centered group of people that facilitate every activity with enthusiasm. Our visits there are the highlights of the year!”

Barbara Altizer, teacher

East Rockford Middle School, Rockford, MI

“The greatest thing about our day in the fall at Camp Roger is the text book and classroom of God’s creation in which we can learn, grow and enjoy. To see and be a part of camp with our great Camp Roger leaders is a gift that my 3rd graders and many parents look forward to. We end the day tired and blessed.”

“I liked being outside and I learned to see the little things and the big things. It was amazing that I was not only learning about survival, but also learning about God.”

“Thanks for the splendid day at Camp! Everyone enjoyed our time and the students are still talking about it. I really appreciate you and your staff. You all do an amazing job with kids (and parents) and it makes the day go by so fast. See you next year.”
